The Basin project was based on researching Japanese bathhouses and the culture behind them. We were given a floorplan and tasked with creating the traditional layout of a Japanese Bathhouse. I decided to take inspiration from Welsh and English designs when picking elements for my bathhouse.

My clients choose a building that was previously a CYCLE BAR. They thought it was a great space with wonderful bones and a central location. The space will need re-adjusting to fit the desired traditional bathhouse layout. My clients both grew up in Wales and have a love for English and Welsh Designs. While they do want the bath house to reflect the layout and history of Japanese Culture, they want the space to be heavily influenced by their home country. The color palette they specified consists of historical blues, rich browns, terracotta or copper red, pale pinks, and creamy whites. They also included that they would like to see copper finishes, porcelain, and marble incorporated into the design. Lastly, they wanted the bath house to have lots of natural elements following in theme with the Japanese Culture.
